The Standards

Welcome to the official Standards archive

The Standards were a local band, based in South Leeds and performed (on and off) for more than 30 years. Re-formed in 2003 after a 10-year absence, they played a large number of gigs and the response was amazing. The lads were committed to providing quality live entertainment, striving for improvement by listening to, and acting upon what the audience had to say. The line up was as follows.

John Metcalf - Lead vocals

Darren Briggs – Guitar and Backing Vocals

Dave Rhodes – Keyboards and Backing Vocals

Mark Hickinson - Bass

Richard Hurford – Drums

Originally a MOD outfit, they continued to support the MOD ideal, but extended their musical range to new wave, ‘60s, rhythm & blues, soul and ska & the best in British guitar based music. Songs were carefully chosen to blend across the genres. Their strength was in their ability to inject 100% energy on stage and get audiences dancing and becoming involved.
